NGOs

There are currently 13 French Organisations of International Solidarity (OIS) that have permanent teams in Kenya. The main sector of intervention is health, more specifically the fight against AIDS. Médecins Sans frontières, Handicap International and French Red Cross have put into place actions in this field which are often referred to as models, particularly in the distribution of antiretroviral drugs or access to treatment for patients infected with HIV.

Several OIS carry out humanitarian missions such as aid to refugees as well as post-conflicts reconstruction, a field in which Kenya plays an important role as an operation base for interventions in neighbouring zones such as Somalia or Southern Sudan.

Other similar organisations carry out their activities mainly in the education sector, as well as in the financial services (micro-finance and medical insurance).

All these actions are followed up with great interest by the French Embassy in Kenya which realizes the important role OIS play in Kenya. Moreover, they allow the dissemination of French expertise in various fields and show directly the solidarity of the French citizens to Kenyan people, developing bonds between the people of the two nations.
