It is strictly advised not to stay in the Lamu archipelago and the surrounding areas (near the Somali border.)
A French citizen was kidnapped from her home on 1st October 2011 by a group of a dozen armed men who came from the sea.
A couple of western tourists had already been kidnapped at the beginning of September in the same area and one of them was killed.
Isolated hotels and resorts and more generally, all residential areas with direct access to the sea are directly threatened.
