Visit of M. Jean-Marc Ayrault in Kenya [fr]
On August 1st 2016 Jean-Marc Ayrault paid an official tour in Kenya, 15 years after a French Minister of Foreign Affairs had last visited Nairobi. This visit aimed at emphasizing France’s will to strengthen its partnership with Kenya.
On this occasion, Mr Ayrault paid a courtesy call to H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, and to Amb. Amina Mohammed, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

He reiterated France’s support to the efforts of Africa to put an end to the conflicts eating away at the continent, and applauded the vital role of Kenya in this action.

Jean-Marc Ayrault also underlined the increasing numbers of French companies in Kenya, which are creating employment. He mentionned that Kenya, with its population of 50 million and its vibrant middle class, has all the tools for the two countries to go even further together.

At State House, Mr. Ayrault witnessed the signing by the French Development Agency (AFD) of a new 33 million Euro financing (about 3.7 billions Kenyan shillings).
This financing agreement was signed by the Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich with Mr. Bruno Deprince, Regional Director for East Africa of AFD, in presence of His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya.
This 33 million Euro financing will support the installation of renewable energy generation units in 23 mini-grids currently powered by diesel generators.

Finally, Mr. Ayrault inaugurated the first Campus France office in Kenya. Where an agent is now fully dedicated to promote studies in France. He will be present 5 days a week at the premises of the Alliance Française of Nairobi.
As a reminder, the number of Kenyan students in France has increased of 57% since 2013.
